Evaluation - Question 4

Q4
Who would be the audience for your media product?

Primary Target Audience

Female audience more in common with the female gender then males.
Ages 8-12
Interests are school, drawing, reading fiction books, playing, and a animal of some kind, e.g. dolphins.
They like fairytales and make believe stories
But they are not too young; they would prefer more a modern touch to it.
I.e. they would be interested in the whole fiction aspect of the film but to make it more believable it is in modern settings all children of this age can relate or recognise i.e., school, and bedroom.
Open to the interest of people of all ethnics, as every ethnic had children of similar these ages, and majority of children share similar interests.
However, British and American audiences mostly, as they are very similar audiences.
And from my research, I have found a lot of fantasy movies are American and British and that American movies have had just as much impact as British movies and vice versa.

We chose these age groups for our target audience as we believe it would appeal to a younger audience, it wouldn’t appeal to a older audience as there is nothing much to relate to, it would be too simple. Whereas for our audience, they require something to keep them busy, something they can follow on easily, something that feeds them every aspect of the film they needs to know to understand it. The story contains one idea followed throughout, it does not branch into more problems and does not pack in too much, and this is so it won’t confuse our audience. However an older audience would require more, more events, trickier problems, unique story plot and much more expectations in a film.

However, before we made the decision of why we chose these age groups, we took some feedback off our colleagues.
From feedback of 9 people;
• too serious
• it not clear its for younger audience
• falls into drama, becomes too serious
• need to watch more fantasy movies, and show similarities between these films and your film, need to adapt key elements off these films.

Therefore from this feedback we re evaluated the whole of our film idea and all aspects within it that did not come off strong enough to ‘fit in’, with its audience or genre.
We realised we forgot sometimes who our audience was; therefore, from the feedback we made changes that became drastic a drastic improvement.

We realised our audience needs things to be slightly more slowly paced and not packed with too much. Therefore we changed the opening of our film, and we also made the equilibrium and new equilibrium shorter and simpler and easy to follow.
This changed a lot to how others perceived our film; it made the film seem more light hearted and less serious, helping the film narrow down to its actual target audience.
